How Much Do Solar Panels Cost?

How Much Do Solar Panels Cost?

That seems to be the million-dollar question these days. The one thing I can tell you is it’s not free.  Solar is an investment and where some people have the ability to utilize their energy company’s Net Metering policy to eliminate their electric bill, they still have to invest in their solar system first. There are many variables that influence solar quotes.

How Your System is Sized

The energy amount of energy a solar panel produces is measured in kWh.

The size of your solar system is measured in KW.

So in order to know how many panels you need, the amount of energy you use will determine how many panels you need.

Another thing that is considered is offset. How much do you want your panels to offset your electric bill?

This will all depend on your electric companies Net Metering Policy, your energy usage, and the goals you have for your solar system.

Other System Variables

Here are a few other things that need to be considered when building your custom solar design and putting together your proposal.

The type of Panel you choose

Your consultant will show you different panel options to choose from and just like with everything else the price will vary.

The type of Roof you have:

Some roofs are easier to install panels on than others, so depending on the type of roof you have, there is potential for extra cost. This is seen with metal roofs, terracota roofs, steep roofs, etc.

Do you want a battery back up?

If you have a grid-tied system, but still want power security when the grid goes down, you’ll need a battery backup. Depending on the brand and amount of energy storage you’ll need this will also be an added investment into your solar system.

Do you want/need a ground mount/parking/shade structure for your panels?

If you don’t have enough space on your roof, or you just don’t want solar panels on your roof, they will need to be placed on ground mounts. You can have your ground mounts as tall as 10 feet. Tall enough to make shade structures or even a solar carport. Any of these options will also add to the overall cost of your solar system.

Without knowing all the variables and your own personal preferences, the only way to know how much solar will cost is by getting a quote.
